Police urge community partnerships as drunken disorderly incidents highlighted ahead of festive season

As we approach the festive season, cases of drunkards roaming the streets and fighting have started to emerge from the towns and the Police Force says there have been constant arrests made through the active crime prevention committees that are working with police.

While responding to questions regarding police operations for towns and cities after cases of drunkard behaviour and fighting in Ba and Tavua were highlighted, Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu is calling on business communities and municipalities to link up with their respective Officer in Charge and Station officers in the respective areas.

He says while the concerns were raised about people being drunk and disorderly, police officers were doing their bit where for example, several arrests were made in one weekend in the Ba area.

ACP Driu says crime prevention committees are made up of vendors and community members who work closely with police in monitoring these incidents and that is the way forward.

He says police officers also conduct patrols beyond the town boundaries as they have other communities to look after.

ACP Driu says they appreciate the support of community leaders who have stepped up to assist police.

They urge the business community to do the same, as their doors are always open for partnership and seeing how they can come up with the best solutions to dealing with issues.
