The late Tui Vitogo, Ratu Wiliame Ratudale Sovasova was laid to rest at the chiefly burial grounds in Lautoka yesterday.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, joined by his wife Sulueti Rabuka, Assistant Ministers and civil servants in the Western Division, presented the ireguregu (traditional condolences) to the vanua of Vitogo yesterday.

In his eulogy, Prime Minister Rabuka paid tribute to the late chief's commitment towards rural and national development.

Rabuka acknowledged the late Sukanacagi's genuine concerns about economic prosperity, which saw his strong support for land development and other socio-economic opportunities for his people and the rural communities in Fiji.

He says the late Ratu Wiliame's determination to see the development of a unified Fiji will be a legacy that we must all strive to fulfil.

He adds the late Tui Vitogo was a dear friend to him and a strong supporter of the People’s Coalition Government.

The Prime Minister says that the late Tui Vitogo also promoted the recognition of itaukei rights and economic empowerment, among other aspects.

The late Ratu Wiliame passed away 11 days ago after an illness. The late Tui Vitogo was installed as the chief of the vanua o Vitogo in 2006, a title he held for 17 years before he was called to eternal rest.

He is survived by his wife, Adi Litiana Marakiwai Naroba, his five children and 14 grandchildren.
