Over 67,000 students and their families in the Western Division who have been severely impacted by COVID-19 and recent flooding events are receiving back to school support through the FIJI Water Foundation.

FIJI Water Foundation is facilitating the purchase, packing, delivery, and distribution of the backpacks to students in years 1-13 in the school districts of Ba-Tavua, Ra, and Lautoka-Yasawa, along with all dependents of employees at FIJI Water, Williams & Gosling, Genera and Neptune Pacific Direct Line.

The Foundation says as the new school term approaches in early April, parents in these regions will be contacted directly by their district offices and schools on how to pick up their packs.

It says Minister of Education, Premila Kumar was at Xavier College in Ba last weekend to celebrate the donation of school backpacks and school supplies to secondary students in the West.

The Foundation says a group of approximately 150 students, teachers and parents attended the event, representing a portion of the 22,000 secondary students who will each receive backpacks containing essential stationery supplies such as notebooks, rulers, pens, and a book, ahead of the first school term in April.

It says on top this, an additional 45,000 primary school students in the West will also receive backpacks in the coming weeks.

The FIJI Water Foundation says it will continue working closely with the Ministry of Education to support their return to school efforts.
