Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad says the opposition is now asking the government whether they will reduce the tax on fuel by 20 cents after dumping it on the consumers and making them suffer.

While responding to a question in parliament by Opposition MP Ketan Lal if the 20 cents per litre fuel tax will be removed, Professor Prasad says they should wait for the budget.

He says it was the FijiFirst Party that raised the 20 cents tax then they reduced it and that is where the matter is.

Opposition MP Premila Kumar then repeated the question to which Professor Prasad responded that Kumar is totally confused.

He says motor spirit has 46 cents tax and diesel fuel has 20 cents.

Lal once again asked the same question and told the parliament that the Deputy Prime Minister is confused and is trying to evade the question.

He says before his appointment, Professor Prasad was a vocal critic of the tax and asks why has he now changed his position.

Professor Prasad says Lal is confused and confusing others.
