Nakasi High School head girl Esther Kuva is gearing up for a year filled with responsibilities and challenges and she is an inspiration to other students as she has persevered and has been resilient after losing her mother to cancer last year.

School Principal, Praveen Chand says Kuva’s mother was diagnosed with bone cancer and passed away last year when she was preparing for her Year 12 external examination.

Chand says she was devastated and was lost but regained strength and managed to score 358 out 0f 400.

While talking to fijivillage News, Kuva says being the head girl is not going to be an easy challenge but she is willing to take it up with the support of the student council.

Kuva says time management will be important for her and she needs to share the work with her deputies and assistants.

The head girl says the student punctuality is an issue for the school and she aims to resolve this by talking to the students on what they may be going through as different students come from different backgrounds.

As several schools are appointing new leaders, Kuva says they will discover who they are and adds a leader is someone who knows the way, goes the way and most importantly, shows the way.

While speaking on the issue of drugs and its prevalence among youths, the Year 13 student says youths may take drugs because they believe it relieves stress and for pleasure but in years to come, they will see the bad effect of it.

She says she aims to get a scholarship to study for MBBS.

Meanwhile, head boy Pita Vosavakadua says time management will be important to him as he will be balancing his studies, responsibility and athletics.

He says he is also trying out to be part of the school athletics team.

Vosavakadua says attendance and punctuality is a challenge for the school and he hopes to encourage students to be come to school everyday and on time.
