Methodist Church President urges congregation to lead the fight against drugs

The President of the Methodist Church of Fiji and Rotuma, Reverend Semisi Turagavou has made a call to his church members to take the lead in the fight against drugs, given its significant presence in Fiji, and create change within their communities.

Reverend Turagavou says the church needs to be represented at every meeting held by the government or stakeholders, to ensure that the church has a voice in contributing to societal change.

He says when the church is actively involved in all aspects of the community, it can be more effective as a beacon of change.

The President says every denomination needs to work together to achieve meaningful change.

Reverend Turagavou also highlighted that the church had experienced a decrease in the number of congregants over the past three years due to the negative reputation of church leadership, which has led to members drifting away and also the migration of people overseas as well as rural-to-urban migration.

Reverend Turagavou says leadership is a crucial element within the church, as it can either unite the congregation or contribute to losing members.

The Methodist Church Annual Conference is underway at the Vodafone Arena from today to Friday.
