The Land Transport Authority collected $13.7 million in road user levy from vehicle owners in the 2018/2019 financial year according to the actual figures in the 2020/2021 National Budget Estimates however the Fiji Roads Authority says it does not have details about this as the Ministry of Economy decides how much is allocated to the FRA.

When contacted by Fijivillage on how much LTA collected as road user levy for the last financial year and what percentage is given to FRA for road maintenance and rehabilitation, LTA’s public relations consultants did not reveal the figure and said it would be best to check with the Ministry of Economy or Ministry of Transport.

According to the budget estimates for the 2019/2020 financial year, $11.6 million was anticipated to be collected in the last budget year.

The road user levy was announced in the 2009 National Budget for all vehicle owners to assist the government in improving the roads around the country.

The road user levy is based on the engine capacity of the vehicle.

We have also contacted the FRA and asked for figures regarding road user levy.

The FRA has referred questions to the LTA.

We have sent questions to LTA’s CEO, Samuel Simpson.

He is yet to respond.
