The Fijian and Indonesian governments have signed amendments to the two Grant Agreements, with the first agreement to help facilitate FJD $3.1 million funding to Fiji for the rehabilitation works for Queen Victoria School under phase two.

In a statement on their Facebook Page, the Fijian Government says this assistance is the continuation of the Indonesian Government’s commitment to support Fiji’s ‘Adopt a School” program in the aftermath of Tropical Cyclone Winston in 2016.

They say the funding released in the first phase enabled the renovation of existing dormitory structures and construction of classroom blocks, with rehabilitation works to continue with the funding secured in the second phase.

It further states that the second agreement signed on Humanitarian Grant for the provision of funding of USD $200,000 by Indonesia for its response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Fijian Government says this is especially for the procurement of pharmaceutical supplies, medical equipment for Fiji’s Health facilities and other health related necessities.

The Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Yogesh Karan conveyed the Fijian Government’s appreciation to the Indonesian Government for this remarkable partnership in building back Fiji’s economy through such enriching bilateral relations.

He says Fiji is grateful for this timely support which is a testament of their shared commitment in building resilience and sustainability through the challenges imposed by the pandemic and climate change.

Karan says through the Fijian Embassy in Jakarta and the Fijian Government are working closely with the Republic of Indonesia and the South East Asian region accredited countries to maximise opportunities for rebuilding our economy and promote social development opportunities for Fiji.
