Eleven community caterers of DIVA for Equality who assisted in providing meals to affected students under the Love Meal Program last year were recognized for their hard work and dedication today.

The women-led activist group provided more than 26,000 meals for over 5 months to children whose parents have been badly affected by COVID-19. Group founder Noelene Nabulivou says they quickly realized they had to do something when the pandemic struck because the students were missing school as they could not afford to buy lunch.

Nabulivou says they identified the 5 schools in Suva and one in Sigatoka which had the most affected students.

One of the certificate recipients who assisted in providing and delivering meals for the students, Kinisimere Tinai says the program was very challenging for her but it was rewarding to assist the students as well.

Tinai adds being employed through the initiative also enabled her to provide for her family.
