211 countries and territories reported more than 1.9M COVID-19 cases worldwide

Authorities in 211 countries and territories have reported more than 1.9 million COVID-19 cases worldwide since China reported its first cases to the World Health Organisation in December.

The reported number of deaths globally from COVID-19 is 123,348.

This is according to data from the Johns Hopkins University Centre for Systems Science and Engineering.

The United States has the highest number of cases and deaths in the world. It has 584,073 cases and 24, 485 deaths.

In the United States, the number of known cases is doubling about every two weeks.

New York City has even told doctors not to test most sick people unless they are hospitalised.

Here in the region, New Zealand has 1,366 cases and 9 confirmed deaths while Australia has 6,494 cases and 61 deaths.

The pandemic has reached every continent except Antarctica.
