Seventeen national sporting organisations have met all requirements for the resumption of only non-contact sports and training from Monday 4th October under the framework put in place by the National Sports Commission.

They are Tennis, Taekwondo, Cricket, Touch Rugby, Netball, Rugby Union, Outrigger (VAA), Suva Marathon, Billiard & Snooker, Lawn Bowls, Golf Fiji, Squash, Karate, Badminton, Archery, Shooting and Football.

The National Sports Commission confirms that after approval of the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, certificates have been given to these sporting organisations.

It says their sports medical specialist technical working group is providing guidance on the resumption of sports and recreational activity framework.

They are working with the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Tourism and Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission which will be inspecting venues at their own discretion.

The National Sports Commission says everyone must have the CareFiji app on at all training sessions and have their vaccination cards when they are asked to present them.

It has also been stressed that people will be required to be fully vaccinated to enter sporting venues.

Association President, Rajesh Patel

The Fiji Football Association says their coaches and Technical Director are meeting all the District Managers and advising players what they need to do to get their fitness level up without getting in contact with other players.

Association President, Rajesh Patel says players can do their own strength and conditioning so they can be ready when contact sports begins.

He says they have already submitted their protocols to allow for the resumption of contact sports to the Health Ministry.

Patel says they are currently in the amber stage and will probably get the green light when 80% of the target population are fully vaccinated.

The Association President says all players are fully vaccinated.

He says more than 3,000 players’ vaccination cards have been submitted to the Health Ministry for verification and they have not received any indication of there being any fake cards.

Patel adds they will be looking at resuming the Digicel Premier League and the Digicel Women’s Super League but they cannot give confirmation on any tournament now as the season will be short.
