More than 164,000 Fijians will benefit from the new Water Mains Project, which commenced with a ground-breaking ceremony at Lokia landing.

While officiating at the ground-breaking ceremony, Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services, and Transport Ro Filipe Tuisawau says this event marks a remarkable milestone in the collective journey toward progress and development.

He says it is a basic human right to have access to clean water.

Ro Filipe says this project will be undertaken by Flame Tree Developments - Fiji Ltd, under the Project name Lokia Pipelaying Works.

He adds this $17.3 million project is a vital component of the Rewa River Water Coverage Extension Program, demonstrating the Coalition Government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that every Fijian has access to safe, clean drinking water.

The Minister said this project is part of the Rewa River Water Coverage Extension Program Servicing Strategy, which was initiated by the WAF Management, and it aligns with their collective vision of a nation where every citizen has the resources necessary to lead a healthy and productive life.

Ro Filipe says improved water supply services are expected to be experienced in the Naselai area, Burebasaga Loop, Wainibokasi Hospital, and the majority of the Southern end of the Rewa Delta.

He says new developments like the China Village Development, Sauniwaqa Subdivisions, and Lokia Road will also be catered for.

He adds these villages have long deserved this essential service. This project will address the water challenges that have impacted daily life, health, education, and economic opportunities in these areas.
